DeSoto teams up with Parkland to create healthier community

Health Expo to provide free screenings and education for all
WHO: DeSoto city leaders and Parkland medical experts will be available for interviews. More than 200 people are expected to attend.

WHAT: In times of job loss and economic downturn, health care often gets overlooked. In an effort to create a healthier community, DeSoto city leaders have called upon Parkland to educate their citizens about preventing health problems. The health expo will target low to moderate income families, children and senior citizens living in the southern sector of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

WHEN: From 3 to 7 p.m., Monday, March 23
Free immunizations and vaccines for children will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m.

DETAILS:      During the expo, guests can receive blood pressure screenings, glucose checks for diabetes, mammogram sign-up, prostate screenings, childhood immunizations and vaccines from 5 to 7 p.m. Information and education about smoking cessation, cancer, trauma, injury prevention, nutrition, stroke, diabetes and more will be available. Parkland financial counselors will be on site to discuss how Dallas County residents can make Parkland their medical home.

This health expo is held as a part of Cover the Uninsured Week, the largest mobilization effort in history centering on the uninsured. Hard-working Americans are going without health care coverage and the number of uninsured is increasing daily. Eight out of 10 people who are uninsured either work or are in working families. There are more than 45 million Americans living without health coverage.
