Parkland clinic wins City-County Cooperation Award
DALLAS- Parkland Health & Hospital System's Irving Health Center has been awarded a 2009 City-County Cooperation Award from the Texas Municipal League. The health center opened in fall 2007 as a joint project by Parkland, the city of Irving, Dallas County and Baylor Medical Center at Irving.

"This is an excellent example of multi-jurisdictional cooperation which resulted in cost savings for the taxpayers," said Dallas County Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, in whose precinct the health center is located.

The City-County Cooperation Award recognizes Texas cities and counties working together to meet the challenges of local government. The award focuses on joint projects covering a variety of approaches to city and county government management.

"This health center would not be here today if not for the tremendous collaborative effort of all the organizations involved. The outcome of this collaboration will lead to a healthier community, which is something we can all benefit from." said Colette White, site administrator of Irving Health Center.

Since its opening, Irving Health Center has seen more than 11,000 patients with more than 33,000 visits. Of those patients, only 3,255 were previously receiving care at a Parkland health center. Others in the system were receiving care elsewhere or not at all.

The 36,600-square-foot health center is located at 1800 N. Britain Road just south of Highway 183. It provides a wide range of health care services including primary care, women's health, immunizations, screenings, dental care, nutrition counseling and treatment for acute and chronic health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems. In addition, as a part of Parkland's Community Oriented Primary Care network, patients will have access to countless other health care services at sites throughout Dallas County.
