Parkland one of 'America's Best Hospitals' for 16th consecutive year
DALLAS - Parkland Memorial Hospital has once again been named one of "America's Best Hospitals" by U.S. News & World Report. The annual listing of top medical centers ranks Parkland 11th nationally in gynecology. This is the 16th consecutive year Parkland has been included in the rankings.

Out of 4,861 U.S. hospitals, only 174 scored high enough to be included in this year's list.

"Parkland's goal is to provide high quality health care to our community, and our continual inclusion as one of 'America's Best Hospitals' sends a message to all of our physicians, nurses and staff that their hard work is recognized," said Parkland President and Chief Executive Officer Ron J. Anderson, MD. "It is their dedication that makes this honor possible."

The rankings are predominantly driven by hard data, with four components: reputation, death rate, patient safety and care-related factors such as nursing and patient services. To be ranked and considered a "Best Hospital," a hospital must be a teaching hospital and have either: at least 200 beds; or at least 100 beds and at least four out of eight key medical technologies such as current-generation CT scanners and precision radiation therapy.

The 2009 rankings are available today at www.usnews.com/besthospitals and on newsstands July 21.
