DALLAS - Puente Concessions will open the doors of its Urban Taco and UFood Grill venue at Parkland Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 19.
UFood Grill bakes, steams, grills, but never fries, for nutritious menu options including smoothies, sandwiches, salads and yogurt. Urban Taco blends the taqueria traditions of Mexico with a variety of options, such as handmade tortillas, with an emphasis on fresh, nutritious ingredients with an urban Mexico City influence.
Urban Taco and UFood will both operate within the same location.
"As a Dallas institution, we are pleased to partner with a family-run, locally owned business like Puente Concessions. Both of our organizations care deeply about the well-being of our community, and this partnership will only enhance our abilities to make an impact," said John Haupert, Parkland chief operating officer.
Puente, which owns a number of other restaurants in North Texas, chose Urban Taco and UFood Grill for the Parkland location because the menus offer a varied selection of fresh foods within a range of prices. Puente specifically expanded the menu to offer more options and better value to the broad customer base at the Parkland location.
"Puente Concessions has more than 20 years of experience at serving high volume, non-traditional locations and so my family and I are thrilled to operate these two healthy and delicious concepts to serve the Parkland community," said Gina Puente-Brancato, CEO and owner of Puente Concessions.
In May 2009, Puente was selected as the new food vendor after a competitive bid process in which Puente was deemed to provide the best value to Parkland. Several factors were considered, including, financial benefit to Parkland, renovations by the vendor, restaurant hours and menu variety based on price and nutritious options. The financial benefit to Parkland was weighted most heavily. The space, previously leased by a McDonald's franchisee, has undergone three months of extensive renovations by Puente. The lease term is five years, at which time Parkland plans to move into a new facility on the east side of Harry Hines Blvd. Plans for food venues at the new facility have yet to be determined.
