Chris Luna named to Parkland board
DALLAS-J. Christopher "Chris" Luna has been named to Parkland Health & Hospital System's Board of Managers. Luna was unanimously confirmed by the Dallas County Commissioners Court.

Dallas County Judge Jim Foster appointed Luna to fill the vacancy created when Wendy Lopez stepped down due to time commitments. Lopez served on the Board since June 2007.

"The Parkland Board of Managers welcomes Chris Luna. His strong sense of civic service and his leadership experience make him a solid addition to our strong team of managers," said Dr. Lauren McDonald, chair of the Parkland Board of Managers. "We also thank Wendy Lopez for her service during which she provided invaluable insight and perspective while working on plans for a new Parkland."

Currently, Luna is the staff vice president and assistant general counsel at MetroPCS Communications, Inc., where he is responsible for commercial litigation, business transactions and labor and employment issues.

"I am honored to have been appointed to Parkland's Board of Managers. I look forward to helping Parkland fulfill its mission to the residents of Dallas County. Parkland plays a critical role in the health and well-being of our community," Luna said.

Luna was first elected to the Dallas City Council in 1991 and was re-elected for two additional terms. While on the council, he chaired the Business and Commerce Committee, the Housing and Neighborhood Development Committee and the Minority and Women Business Enterprise Advisory Committee. He also served on the Finance and Audit Committee.

He currently serves on the board of directors of the Dallas Zoological Society, the Shared Housing Center, the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and Friends of Fair Park. Luna is also a former chairman of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau and volunteered on the boards of the Dallas Theater Center, Dallas-Fort Worth Regional Film Commission and the Shakespeare Festival of Dallas.

He has served as an adjunct instructor at the SMU School of Law, El Centro College, UT Dallas and Richland College. Luna previously served on the President's Hispanic Advisory Council at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Luna maintains memberships in the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association and the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association. He is a past president of The Dallas Assembly and a graduate of Leadership Richardson.

Luna graduated from University of Texas McCombs School of Business with a degree in accounting in 1983 and the University of Texas School of Law in 1986.
