Parkland's Youth & Family Centers offer low-cost immunizations
Avoid the back-to-school rush by getting immunizations early |
| DALLAS (July 15, 2010) - With the July 4 holiday past, the back-to-school push is gearing up and one crucially important requirement is immunizations. Physicians representing Parkland's network of Youth & Family Centers are strongly urging families to avoid waiting in long lines in the August heat during the last-minute rush by getting immunizations now.
Immunizations are available at 11 locations across Dallas County for a $5 copay for the seven required immunizations. For students needing office visits, there is a $15 copay. "We are encouraging families to beat the heat and avoid the long lines by getting these mandatory immunizations done ahead of time at one of our Youth & Family Centers located within Dallas ISD schools. Students can also come to the centers to get affordable checkups before school starts," said Susan Spalding, MD, medical director of Parkland's Youth & Family Centers. Immunizations must be up to date before the first day of school and include Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis; Polio; Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); Hepatitis B; Varicella; Meningococcal; and Hepatitis A. "Dallas ISD schools will start in about five weeks on August 23," said Suzanne Kubelka, executive director, Health Services, Dallas ISD. "It's really important to your child's academic success that he or she complies with the required immunizations and be ready to learn on the very first day of school. Immunize your child now and avoid the back-to-school rush." The Youth & Family Centers are open Mondays through Thursdays at times ranging from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. To find out more about Dallas ISD immunization requirements go to www.dallasisd.org.
