Parkland Foundation names new President and CEO
DALLAS—Today at the regularly scheduled meeting of Parkland Health & Hospital System’s Board of Managers, President and CEO Dr. Ron Anderson announced that Parkland Foundation has named David E. Krause as its new president and chief executive officer. Dr. Anderson also announced that respected Parkland Foundation President and CEO Barbara Lord Watkins is receiving president emeritus status from Parkland Foundation when she retires from her office on June 3.                        

Mr. Krause will take the helm in early June.                                          

“David Krause has had great success in creating development, endowment and donor relations programs, and I am confident that his expertise will be of tremendous value to Parkland Foundation,” said Mrs. Watkins. “I leave this office in very capable hands.”                                                                  

“The mission of Parkland is extremely compelling to me,” said Mr. Krause. “It is an honor to be a part of supporting this mission at such a critical time in Parkland’s history. The challenges, as always, are significant and I know they will bring a myriad of opportunities for philanthropy.”                                                

In addition to honoring Mrs. Watkins with president emeritus status, Parkland Foundation has extended an invitation for her to stay on its board of directors.            


“Parkland Foundation is fortunate to continue the legacy of excellence established by Barbara Lord Watkins,” said Robert H. Thomas, chairman of the Parkland Foundation Board of Directors. “Given Barbara’s 25 year dedication to Parkland, it is fitting that she receive this distinguished president emeritus status as well as a continued seat on the Foundation’s board.”                                          

Mrs. Watkins began her career at Parkland Health & Hospital System in 1980. She served in a number of capacities on behalf of the hospital including oversight of all personnel associated with Parkland Foundation, of which she was a founding member in 1985. In 1995, she was appointed Parkland's senior vice president of Public Affairs and Patient Services as well as president and chief executive officer of Parkland Foundation. In 2000, she devoted her full efforts toward making Parkland Foundation one of the top public hospitals foundations in the nation.            


Mrs. Watkins has received many prestigious personal and professional awards including the Linda Keighly Award for women in public management from North Central Texas Council of Governments,Helen Farabee Award, United Way of Texas and the Women’s Advocacy Award forNon-profit Leadership to be presented to her in June 2005 by the Legal Aid of North West Texas.                                                

“I consider it a pleasure and a privilege to have served Parkland for 25 years,” said Mrs. Watkins. “It is an honor to receive this president emeritus status from Parkland Foundation. I look forward to continuing my service to the Foundation as a member of its distinguished board.”

David is a superb choice to take what Barbara has accomplished and grow its success."


Mr. Krause’s experience and expertise in working with hospital foundations span two decades. He was executive director of Highlands Medical Foundation from 1986 until 1987. From 1987 until 1995, Mr. Krause served at Baylor Health Care System Foundation in many capacities including chief operating officer and planning and donor relations director and finished his illustrious career as vice president. He joined Children’s Medical Center Dallas in 1996 as senior vice president for development and served in that position until present.                                                

Mr. Krause graduated from Valparasio University in 1970 with a bachelor of arts degree. He received a masters degree in divinity from Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 1974 and a doctorate of ministry from Christ Seminary-Seminex in St. Louis. He served as the director of development at Christ Seminary-Seminex from 1979 until 1984 and was the executive director of the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1984 until 1986.
